Hey everyone! Hope I’m finding everybody alive and well and happy! It’s been awhile!
I keep meaning to redo this blog, and I keep getting distracted! In New York, it’s very, very easy to get distracted. Let me see if I can recap the things that have happened thus far:
1. I’m still working at the Times, and am even venturing onto the web side of things, which is pretty sweet. It’s nice to have a little bit of experience doing both print and online work, and I’m always happy to expand my skill set.
2. I’m getting TWO new roomies, which is super exciting. Both awesome guys, both sweet as can be.
3. I’m going to ACTING SCHOOL. I know, this is so random and strange, but I miss acting like nothing else. Back in the day (i.e. high school), I lived to be onstage. Since those dark ages, I’ve shifted more onto the writing and design side of things, but I find myself missing the actual activity of acting more than anything. I miss memorizing lines, and getting involved with people, and learning about a character, and really just telling a story in a way that doesn’t necessarily involve written words and images. I’m attending William Esper’s studio, which is a short jaunt from the NYT, so I hope to really just have a good time, learn a thing or two (or a lot), and make some new friends.
4. My older sister Tara had her first baby – a little adorable girl named Adelaide. She is quite possibly the best thing in this world, and it’s so hard to believe that she’s 5 months old. 5 months…wow. She’s already talking and cooing and babbling to herself, and she’s a real looker – huge cheeks, almond-shaped eyes, my dad’s dimples…here’s a picture if you don’t believe me. Adorable. I’d like to think she looks a smidge like me, but that’s probably just the worshipful aunt in me coming through.
5. Speaking of sisters, my little sister Jo has moved to New York! Crazy, huh? Two Shoes, roaming around New York, just getting into all kinds of trouble. She’s got a temporary job as a nanny right now in Park Slope, but she’s interviewing like crazy, ready to find a new job and get involved in the fashion or design industries. So if anyone out there is looking for an industrious, creative mini-Shoe, she’s available!
Things seem to be falling into place more and more. I’m just…happy with New York, happy with my friends, happy with the advent of summer and all the fun things it brings: sundresses, margaritas, long lazy days in McCarren Park, dancing and big sunglasses and bike rides and hot dogs and Brighton Beach trips and all the other things I can’t even begin to list. It’s going to be an exciting summer – that much is true.
Oh, and I do intend to forge ahead with my reviews of movies and books, but right now I’m so strapped for time it’s ridiculous. When I get a free moment, I plan on writing down my thoughts about LOST, because that TV series really got to me. I loved it. I LOVE it, to be more accurate, and plan on re-watching all 6 seasons soon. Just to let it sink in a little bit more. I haven’t felt such a connection to fictional characters in a long, long time, and that series finale had me in tears from the last half hour. Sigh. I’ll miss you, LOST.
I’ll be updating soon again, so thanks for staying tuned, and I promise to keep up this blog more frequently. Seriously – I promise!
